About the role
Principal Technical Account ManagerCybersecurity | Melbourne (Sydney considered) | Full-time | Hybrid
Base up to $180k (target range $140k–$160k) + bonus
Our client is one of Australia's fastest-growing cybersecurity companies — a full-service security partner delivering penetration testing, governance/risk/compliance, and 24/7/365 Security Operations to mid-market and enterprise clients across Australia. This is a newly created seat, built around a genuinely technical mandate rather than a traditional account-management remit.
Why This Role Is Different
This isn't a reporting-and-relationship CSM role wearing a technical job title. It's built for someone who wants to operate as the technical voice inside the account — the person a CISO turns to for input on controls and posture, not just the person who sends the quarterly report.
What You'll Own
Act as the technical advisor inside a portfolio of client accounts, working alongside (not instead of) the commercial account manager.
Interpret security data and turn it into insight — not just present dashboards and reports.
Brief client security teams on emerging threat trends and what they specifically mean for that client's environment.
Surface cross-sell and expansion opportunities through genuine technical observation of the client's environment.
Build enough technical credibility that the client's CISO or security lead comes to you directly for input on controls and posture.
Own reporting as one input into the relationship — not the purpose of it.
What We're Looking For
Must-haves:
Background as a senior SOC analyst, detection engineer, or GRC consultant — genuine hands-on security practitioner experience.
Demonstrated ability to form and defend a technical opinion on risk, controls, or posture — not just relay findings prepared by someone else.
Comfortable operating as a trusted technical point of contact for senior stakeholders, including CISOs and security leads.
Nice-to-haves:
Prior exposure to a client-facing or account-facing seat (technical account management, pre-sales, or similar) layered on top of practitioner experience.
Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to Australian mid-market/enterprise clients (e.g. ISO 27001, Essential Eight, SOC 2).
This role is not a fit for a customer-success or relationship-management background without genuine technical depth — the client has been explicit that this is a deliberate shift away from that profile.
Location & Compensation
Melbourne preferred; Sydney will be considered for the right candidate.
Base salary up to $180k, with a target range of $140k–$160k depending on experience.
Bonus structure included; final mechanics to be confirmed with the successful candidate.
