Three weeks ago, I was made redundant from my previous employer due to an org re-structure. For the first two weeks, I was lucky to have met 16 different organisations, half of which were led by external recruitment agencies. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that most of the external recruiters that I was working with were awful. Not that they didn’t get me to final rounds or offers, most of them did. No instead some of these recruiters half-jokingly half-seriously told me to stop interviewing with other organisations as they had invested their time into me. While other recruiters tried to manipulate me by saying, “You have by today COB to tell me if you’d accept the role otherwise I’m going to give it to one of the other two candidates,” to find out a day later that I was the only candidate going for the role.

I had worked with external recruitment agencies before in the past 14 years of my professional career, some of which were good and others were bad. But this experience in my first two weeks out of employment brought me to the point to decide that I was no longer going to work with recruiters, regardless of how great the potential roles were.

Just as I was about to wash my hands, along came Chris from Bluebird recruitment agency.

Bluebird was completely different from the other agencies that I’d worked with. Principal ANZ Consultant, Christopher Georgiades and Managing Partner, James Bergl genuinely invested their time into the recruitment process with this particular opportunity. From speeding up the recruitment process and providing tangible advice, to doing role-play demonstrations and workshops to ensure every round I was successful.

Throughout the entire two week recruitment process with Bluebird, I felt just as valuable and a priority as the organisation they were representing.
